Jeffrey Tarayao has more than 10 years’ experience in managing sustainability, corporate social responsibility, community relations and communications. He has developed models on integrated CSR, strategic community relations, corporate-community partnerships and sustainability programs.
Currently the chief CSR officer of the Manila Electric Co. and President of One Meralco Foundation, Tarayao is also president of the Coalition for Better Education and a member of the board of trustees of the League of Corporate Foundations and the International Association of Business Communicators.
As president, Tarayao was able to expand One Meralco Foundation’s community electrification program to cover some 10,000 marginalized households in the past two years. He launched One Meralco’s school electrification program that taps renewable sources to provide electricity islands and remote schools in the country in 2012. The program, Isla Verde, was recognized at the CSR Awards in Washington, D.C., in February 2013 under the social good category.
Tarayao has worked with development organizations, including the U.N. Development Program, U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization. He has spoken on CSR and sustainability in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Australia, India, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The programs Tarayao managed over the past 10 years have earned him several local and international accolades, including the Management Association of the Philippines’ CSR Leadership Challenge, Asian CSR Award, Global CSR Awards, International Gold Quill in New York and Corporate Governance Asia’s Best CSR Award.
Tarayao was also recently chosen as an Asia 21 Fellow of the Asia Society, and was honored by the University of Santo Tomas Manila as one of The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni – Thomasian Young Achiever in 2008.
