Carla May Beriña-Kim
Carla Beriña-Kim made history when, in 2012, she wrote and produced the Philippines’ first-ever sustainability report that adheres not only to updated Global Reporting Initiative G3.1 Level A standards, but the ISO 26000 guidance on social responsibility as well.
As head of Manila Water’s sustainable development department, Beriña-Kim sets strategic direction on the development, implementation and monitoring of corporate social responsibility and sustainability programs under three focus areas: water provision to the urban poor, water education and environmental protection.
Using her knowledge and experience in sustainability and inclusive business, she helped Laguna Water, Clark Water and Boracay Water — subsidiaries of Manila Water Co. — to develop their own sustainability framework, identify strategic programs, establish metrics to monitor their progress and publish their own sustainability reports.
Beriña-Kim also heads Manila Water Foundation, the company’s CSR arm that caters to base-of-the-pyramid communities outside its service areas in Metro Manila. Under her leadership, the foundation has been able to help more than 5,000 families gain sustainable access to clean water.
