Kara Patria David
Broadcast journalist Kara David has received international and local awards for her documentaries, and has been recognized globally for her work on advancing children’s rights. She established Project Malasakit, a nonprofit that sends poor children to school and provides food and medicines to remote communities, in 2002.
David honed her skills as host, researcher and writer when she started producing documentaries for “I-Witness.” Many of the documentaries she produced for the show have won national and international accolades, with those dealing with children creating the most impact. Her documentary on children born and raised in prison earned her the UNICEF Child Rights Award in 2003.
In 2010, David won a George Foster Peabody Award for her work documenting the difficulties the Mangyan tribe has in gaining access to vital health care services.
David was recognized as one of The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines in 2007 and one of the Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service in 2011.
