Dr. Sarah Johnson Beebout
Dr. Sarah Johnson Beebout works on implementing environmentally and economically sustainable rice production, and on increasing the zinc content in rice grains for improving human nutrition. Currently the deputy head at the International Rice Research Institute’s Crop and Environmental Sciences Division, she is responsible for the division’s risk management and quality assurance program.
Beebout’s research group aims to give farmers in different environmental conditions accurate recommendations to cost-effectively cultivate larger quantities of more nutritious rice.
By explaining how different farming environments affect zinc content in rice grains, Beebout’s soil science research contributes to the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research’s HarvestPlus zinc biofortification program.
